Manuel Eymard Fernandez's Obituary
Manuel E. Fernandez, 83
September 13, 1938 – May 13, 2022
Love one another as I have loved you.
John 15:12
Surrounded by his family, holding on to the hand of his wife, our funny, patient, and loving Uncle Manny left us on May 13th, 2022.
Uncle graduated from Lahainaluna High School in 1957 and went to work for Baldwin Packers in Lahaina. When the Sheraton Maui Hotel Opened in 1963, Uncle Manny was one of the first employees hired as a cook. In addition to working at the hotel, Uncle Manny had a love for music and was a talented drummer who never learned to read music, but was able to play by ear. After 37 years of service at Sheraton Maui, Uncle Manny retired and focused his time on his family, shuffling Grandpa to his appointments, spending quality time with his Siamese cat Frankie, and making romantic picnic dinners for him and Aunty Jo to enjoy at the beach. Even after retirement, uncle Manny lovingly made numerous meals for ailing family and friends, who appreciated his kindness and generosity.
Manny and Jo traveled to many Mainland destinations and even travelled to Vancouver and Victoria, Canada. However, the highlight of their travels was to Rome and the Vatican.
Though we miss Uncle Manny’s cooking, his ability to make us laugh and his beautiful smile, we rejoice in the knowledge that he is at peace, home with our Heavenly Father.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Anthony Church in Wailuku on Saturday, June 25, 2022. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, with mass to follow. Burial will be at Maui Memorial Park, Garden of Meditation in Wailuku.
Uncle Manny was loved and supported by his wife of 52 ½ years, Aunty Jo; his daughter Alana Fernandez; his son Scotty (Marisa) Fernandez; his grandchildren Ian and Victoria Martins; his Brother-in-law Vernon Feiteira; his niece Wendy (Jamie) De Cambra; his grandnephew and grandniece, Austin and Lexi. Let us not forget that Uncle Manny was adored and treasured by his fuzzy grand puppy, Izzy and his grand guinea pigs, Gigi and Chia.
Our family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Michael Savona, Marianne Mattos and Tammy Cravalho, MFD First Responders, EMT’s and Patrick Gragas. We would also like to thank the West Wing staff at Hale Makua Kahului, Especially Sunny and Florida.
Please come celebrate Uncle Manny’s life for a luncheon with the family at Maui Beach hotel, Rainbow Dining Room Upstairs.
The Fernandez family requests the use of facial coverings.
