Marc Wendell Ovid-DeSouza
September 1, 1968 – August 11, 2023
Marc “Marco” Ovid-DeSouza passed away August 11, 2023 at Maui Memorial Hospital. He was
54 years old.
Marc is survived by his husband, Robert Burrichter of Wailuku, son Daniel DeSouza of Los
Angeles, daughter Quincy DeSouza of London, England, four grandchildren (Jaden, Joshua,
Myah, and Angelina) father Winston DeSouza of London, England, sisters Debbie Hernandez
Brown (Charles Brown) and Claudia Samuels of New York City, Natalie Grace Hall, Mandy
DeSouza, Sonia DeSouza, and Sion DeSouza of London, and brothers Nathan DeSouza, Andrew
DeSouza, and Bobby DeSouza of London, nieces Jazmine Samuels and Chaleka Brown of New York plus numerous added nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his mother Pearl Ovid-Choy and sister Andrea DeSouza Roper.
Marc was born in Kensington, London, England on September 1, 1968. He was educated in both
the U.K. and U.S. including attendance at boarding school in Edinburgh, Scotland. After
relocating to New York, he attended St. Johns Prep in New York City followed by attendance at
Hunter College. He also was a dancer, having participated in training and performance at the
Alvin Ailey School of Dance in New York City. He received a B.A. in Psychology in 2017.
In addition to London and New York, he resided in Los Angeles where he served as a personal
trainer as well as providing real estate management services prior to relocating to Maui in 2013.
On Maui, he created and built Marco Pono LLC, a vacation rental management company based
at the Sugar Beach Resort in Kihei. He was heading up the company serving nearly 50 condo
rental units at the time of his death.
Among many talents, Marc was known for his never-ending positive outlook on life,
sophisticated wit, infectious laugh well known to family, friends and business associates and his
multitude of creative cooking skills. He and his husband resided in Wailuku with their rescue
dog Rahjah.
