Matias Rioliko Esmeralda's Obituary
Matias R. Esmeralda, 104, was born on Jaunary 9, 1911 and passed away on May 14, 2015. “Maxie,” as most people knew him, was somewhat of a fixture of Wailuku Town. Living in Wailuku, he would walk around town to get to work or to just hang out. He held many jobs over his lifetime but most will remember him from The Maui Bowling Center where he was an avid bowler, worked behind the counter, and maintained and cleaned the alley for many years. He was a hardworking, kind and humble man who was loved and will be missed by many.
Maxie is survived by his daughters: Debbie (Allen) Arakawa, Suzie Esmeralda, Loretta Mendez, Sylvia Valdez, Barbara Awa, Patricia (Thomas) Texeira, Theresa Valdez; sons, Pedro Valdez, Michael Valdez; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren. Maxie was predeceased by his wife, Petra Cosma Esmeralda; daughter, Tanya Esmeralda; son, Patrick Valdez.
Services to be held at St. Anthony Church on Saturday, June 6, 2015, 8:30 am family visitation, 9:00 am visitation, service to begin at 11:00 am followed by mass.
