Maxima Aurelio Mariano's Obituary
Maxima Foronda Gapusan Aurelio Mariano, 96, of Kahului, Maui, went home to Our Heavenly Father, surrounded by family, on November 1, 2023 in Kahului. Maxima was born on May 11, 1927, in Cauayan, Isabela, Philippines, to Felipe and Vicenta Aurelio. She is the eldest of seven children and was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Fidelino, Eugenio; and sister Candida Manglal-lan, and by her beloved husband Andres Mariano Sr.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Maxima’s education was delayed during World War Two and she graduated in March 1950 from Cauayan High School in Isabela. She continued her education and graduated from Philippine Normal College in April 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She became a teacher and taught at schools in Cauayan. Maxima married husband Andres Mariano, a Sakada, in June 1961 in the Philippines. She joined him in Maui in 1964. They raised a son Andres Jr. and supported adopted daughter Rosario in the Philippines. Andres passed away in 1975. Maxima worked in jobs at Maui Pineapple Company, Maui Day Care Center, and finally at Maui Inter-Continental Hotel as a laundry attendant where she retired in 1993. She kept active by being an elections volunteer, helping with living trusts, being a court interpreter, traveling, and being part of Saranay Maui, and the ILWU senior club. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family. Maxima had a deep faith in God and religion was an important part in her life.
Maxima had a strong dedication to her family in Hawaii and the Philippines. She successfully petitioned for her brothers and sisters and their families to join her in Hawaii. Like all Filipino immigrants who came to Hawaii, Maxima's family circle had expanded and continues her legacy in private and public service.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to families and friends for their support and prayers and to Christ the King Church. A special thank you to the staff of Islands Hospice and Desiyree Corpuz for their compassion, support and care for Maxima over the past fifteen months.
Visitation will be held at Nakamura Mortuary on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 6:00 PM followed by Prayer Service and program at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be at Christ the King Church on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 9:00-11:00 followed by Mass. She will be laid to rest at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku at 12:30 PM.
