Miroslaw Szatko's Obituary
Dr. Miroslaw J. Szatko, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021. He was born on September 12, 1979 in Dembica, Poland to Jerzy and Maria Szatko. His family moved to New Jersey in 1985 with their hopes for the American Dream. From childhood, Mirek knew that he wanted to be a doctor, and volunteering as an EMT brought his dream to fruition. With Mirek’s grit and perseverance he became a graduate of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in May of 2007, and he graduated from Emergency Medicine Residency in June of 2010. For the last fourteen years of his life, he improved the lives of thousands of his patients.
Mirek had an adventurous soul which made him yearn to see the world. He enjoyed traveling with his mother, wife, son, and friends. He visited Peru, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Jamaica, Bahamas, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Thailand. He also volunteered as a doctor for a medical mission in Nepal.
He enjoyed white-water rafting, zip lining, snowboarding, hiking, skydiving, scuba diving, being out on the water on a boat, and one-wheeling. He even climbed Mt. Everest. So, it wasn’t a surprise when he moved to Hawaii in October of 2016 to start a new adventure and chapter of his life.
Mirek will be remembered for his sense of humor, boundless energy, extreme organizational habits, unfailing work ethic, and a willingness to help anyone with tech or medical questions. He will be also remembered by his love for animals, adventures, and sweets. He will be remembered for the way he truly cared about his patients. But most importantly of all, Mirek will always be remembered for the love he shared with his wife, family, and friends; and for being such an incredible father to his adorable two-year-old son, Ollie Szatko.
Mirek will be missed greatly by his loving wife, Laura Szatko; son, Ollie Szatko; mother, Maria Szatko; sister, Beata Darbig; brother-in-law, Jeffrey Darbig; nephews Richie and Charlie Darbig; as well as by his hundreds of friends. The medical knowledge and experience Dr. Szatko shared with his co-workers will now be his legacy. We know that Mirek is now reunited with his Daddy, Jerzy Szatko; and he is much loved here on earth and in heaven.
“Rest In Peace angel, until we meet again.” Love, Mommy.
