Mitsue was born on May 2, 1921. She was the 3rd of 9 children born to Sueguma & Kayo Horikami of Lahaina. As one of the eldest, she was often relied upon to care for her younger siblings. With practice so early on in her life, it’s no wonder Mitsue was known for her
nurturing qualities and her ability to put a smile on anyone’s face. In 1941, Mitsue, married her first love, Mr. Frank Tatsuo Nakamura, of Lahaina. Together they had nine children. Mitsue was so proud of her family and it is what she truly loved most in life. Luckily for Mrs. Nakamura, at the time of her passing, her legacy extended far past the 97 descendants she leaves behind to cherish her memory. In her spare time, Mrs. Nakamura enjoyed fishing and would often
proudly feed her family her days catch.
Throughout her life, Mitsue spent hours and hours honing her self taught talent of harmonica playing. Her daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Craig, who have been caring for Mitsue for 25 years, have a Chihuahua named Pal. Anytime Mitsue would play the harmonica, Pal would jump up on the closest chair and howl along with her. Together, they were a musical duo in perfect harmony.
Mrs. Nakamura joins in heaven, her beloved husband of 50 years, Mr. Frank Tatsuo Nakamura, and her daughter, Dale Bernal. Mrs. Nakamura is survived by eight children, Elaine (Alan) Sloan,
Pamela Underwood, Dennis Nakamura, Ira (Gloria) Nakamura, Eunice (Charles) Ross, Nathan (Lola) Windham, Sinceri (Craig) Nakashima, and Francine (Glenn) Hope; son-in-law, Larry Bernal;
sister, Harriet Wagner; and brothers, Tamaru Horikami and Masayuki (Mary Jane) Horikami. Mrs. Nakamura also leaves behind 27 treasured grandchildren, 55 beloved great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and her dear companion, Pal.
