Mitsue Tamanaha's Obituary
Mitsue Tamanaha (née Yokoda) transitioned with quiet dignity, on 15 April 2024 at the age of 103 years 6 months. She was born on 2 October 1920 in Ishikawa City, Okinawa. In 1959 she arrived in Hawaii beside Tadao Tamanaha as his second wife, and became a U.S. Citizen in 1979. She was fiery, determined, and independent and took great care of Tadao. She always made sure he was remembered after his passing. Mitsue had an active mind, always reading, partaking in assisted-living activities and was a word puzzle and Sudoku master until the end. The cacophony of birds she fed from her bedside will assuredly miss her. She is the last of the issei Tamanaha’s and leaves behind a grateful extended family. In lieu of flowers (as suggested elsewhere on this site) or koden, her family encourages donations be made in Mitsue's memory to Hale Makua Health Services where she made her final home. There will be no public viewing and all services will be held for family only.
