Miyako Yasui's Obituary
Miyako Yasui, 86 of Wailuku passed peacefully on March 19, 2012 at the Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on March 20, 1925 in Hiroshima, Japan and survived the atomic bomb in World War II. She also resided in Sendai, Japan before coming to Hawaii.Visitation will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Rissho Kosei-kai Buddhist Church at 1817 Nani Street in Wailuku. Memorial services over ashes will begin at 11:00am.When Grandma Yasui arrived in Hawaii, she worked at her Aunt's Okazu-ya in Honolulu and later as a waitress at the Kanraku Tea House. After she moved to Maui she worked as a seamstress for Otaheiti Clothing Company and then the Maui Potato Chip Company for over 10 years. She was also employed at Ah Fook Store, Nazo's, Kincha Restaurant at the Grand Wailea Hotel, and Dani's Catering. In her later years, she enjoyed being a friend of the Ichiban Restaurant family in Kahului, where she met and befriended many customers locally and those that were visiting from all parts of the world.She was a kind friend, a caregiver, a dog sitter, and most of all "Grandma" to many people. We miss you, Grandma Yasui.She was predeceased by her husband, Mamoru Yasui and is survived by a very large hanai family.Inurnment services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Puunene Nichiren Mission in Kahului, where her ashes will be laid to rest.
