Rachel was a terrific person who devoted many hours to volunteer at Maui Okinawa Events. For certain events she would make her wonderful bread pudding and each time she brought the bread pudding she always always saved me 2 pieces on the side to take home. I will never forget Rachel and how she was such a giving person. My condolences to the family.
Aunty Rachel was one of the kindest, gentlest and most sincere persons I have had the privilege to have known and learn from. She and gruff, no-humbug Uncle Toki helped this naughty boy grow up to be a decent human being. I am going to miss them both and look forward to seeing them again along with my dad and grandma Usa in a paradise greater than old Kihei, Maui one day.
With Love and a Texas Aloha,

Known to us in Maui Okinawa Taiko as Mrs. Gusukuma, Aunty Rachel, and Grandma Rachel...she was loved by all and will be sorely missed. Every practice there would be a treat lovingly made. She would volunteer to transport taiko drums (and Micah!) to performances in her minivan no matter how far away. She was always there, even watching our practices on Zoom once the pandemic hit. Cheerful and generous, we are grateful for every moment Aunty Rachel spent with us through the years.
To her family, our deepest sympathy for your loss.
