Modesto Ebojo Jarra's Obituary
Modesto Ebojo Jarra, 88, was born on July 14, 1932 at Caoayan Vigan Ilocos Sur, Phillipines. His parents relocated to San Estaban, Ilocos Sur. Modesto arrived on Maui, Hawaii in 1964, then relocates his family in 1969, to be with him at his residence in Kahului.
Modesto retired from Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company (HC&S), which was his first and only employer. He began as an irrigation field worker, which he took great pride in and enjoyed his work along with his co-workers. He was extremely humble, modest, kind, highly skilled in stone carving and would cut his friends hair just to talk stories. Family was very important in his life.
Modesto is survived by his wife, Leonida; his 6 children, Teddy (Nayda) Jarra, Anamae (Joseph) Bantilan, Jocelyn Damaso, Jimmy (Celia) Jarra, Ida (Ed) Renaud, and Josephine Thurman; 16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Remedios Jarra Sediego from the Philippines, Augusto (Noemi) Jarra from Oahu. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Elpidio and Rufina Jarra; siblings, Severino Jarra, Elisa Jarra Estrada, Faustino Jarra, Jose Jarra, Caridad Jarra Paraiso, and Josephina Jarra Ting.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday Aug. 4, 2021 from 9:00 am to 9:30 am (family), 9:30 am to 12 noon (public) at Nakamura's Mortuary, located at 1218 Lower Main Street, Wailuku, Hawaii. Modesto will be laid to rest at Maui Memorial Park at 12:30 pm.
