Nicholas Turbin's Obituary
Nicholas Stephen Turbin, better known by many as “Nick” or “Nick the Greek”, passed away in Lāhainā, Maui on August 8th, 2023. Nick was born on November 28th, 1951 and grew up in Duluth, MN. He graduated from Duluth Denfeld HS in 1971. After a few years in college, Nick spent his young adult years road tripping across country and back.
Seeking paradise, Nick came to Maui in the early 1980’s. Nick worked on Front Street in Lāhainā as an Activity Sales Agent for companies like Fantasy Islands, a few others over the years, and mostly Maui Tickets for Less. Never once changed his career. He loved everything about the job, from the coworkers that became lifelong friends, customers he could talk stories with all day, to all the awesome activities that he got to enjoy. Not only did he love his career, he loved the town he called home.
In 1993, Nick married Joy Shahbazian on a beach in Hānā, Maui. Together they moved to Hā’iku, Maui. And in 1995, they spent half the year in China, finalizing the adoption of their first and only child, Kela Turbin. Nick’s small but precious family he had created was his most prized possession in life. Nick always reminded his daughter how blessed they both were in life and to be proud of the family name his father had given us. Nick was also very proud to have a grandson.
In the end, Nick loved his bachelor's life in Lāhainā . His paradise home.
We will miss him very much and the smile he always wore.
Nicholas is survived by his daughter Kela (Kā’eo) Turbin and her mother Joy Shahbazian.
He is survived by his brother Fred (Julie)Turbin, 5 other biological siblings and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the Maida’s family (who is considered as our family as well).
