Noboru Matsuda's Obituary
Noboru (Uncle Nobe) Matsuda, 85, of Kahului passed away on April 7 at Maui Memorial Hospital. He was born in Chualar, California on May 25, 1930 to Shunso and Ochiye (Yamanobe) Matsuda. At the age of twelve, due to WWII he and his family were displaced from California to Colorado, eventually settling down in Wellington, Colorado. While pursuing and earning his B.S. degree in Chemistry at Colorado Agriculture and Mechanical College (Colorado State University) he met his future wife, Yaeko Kawaguchi.
Noboru and Yaeko married on August 28, 1955 on Maui, making it their home. Shortly after, Noboru entered the U.S. Army in November 1955. While spending his entire obligation in Germany until his honorable discharge in November 1958, Yaeko accompanied him for a year.
After his military duties, he began his career on Maui by being employed by the Baldwin Packers Pineapple Company in Lahaina. A few years later he was employed by Orchards of Hawaii in Kahului. After the closing of Orchards of Hawaii, he worked for Roberts’ Hawaii as a Tour Guide translator/interpreter.
Noboru is survived by his wife, Yaeko, and 6 nephews and 6 nieces.
Noboru was predeceased by his parents, Shunso and Ochiye Matsuda; brothers, Isamu, Toshi, and Mamoru; sisters, Kunio and Kimie.
Visitation will be held on May 4, beginning at 3:30 pm with services to follow at 4:30 pm at the Kahului Hongwanji Mission. The family requests casual attire.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kahului Hongwanji Mission.
