Norman S. Suzuki's Obituary
Norman S. Suzuki, 83, passed away on April 3, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. Born on Nov. 7, 1931, in Kahului, Maui to Kazuo and Florence Suzuki. He attended Baldwin High School and was a 26 year Veteran of the US Army serving two tours during the Korean War and one tour in Vietnam. He entered the Army on Nov 11, 1949, as a Bazooka Gunner at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He was later assigned to Company L, 5th Regimental Combat Team, 24th Infantry Division. Within 27 months he accelerated through the ranks to Master Sargent due to his extraordinary heroism and bravery during the Korean War. He was awarded the Silver Star and recommended for a second, received two Bronze Stars, one with a “V” device for valor and helped his unit obtain a Presidential Unit Citation. He retired in 1975 as a Sargent Major and began working for the Federal Aviation Administration in Hilo, HI until 1992 when he was transferred to Laredo, TX and finally settling in Bandera, TX in 2002.
Norman is survived by his sister, Alma Ebisui of Kahului, Maui; sons, David (Janice) Suzuki of Killeen, TX, Johnny of Brea, CA, Ricky of Ontario, CA; daughters, Tammy of Murrieta, CA, Jaynie of Honolulu, HI, Paula (Jon) Kaiser of Kapolei, HI; grandchildren, Crystal, Jennifer, David and Johnathan; great grandchildren Andrew and Arianna.
Grave side military funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 13th at 10:30 am at Maui Memorial Park, we would be honored if all those that knew him would come and share your memories with us. Luncheon will be served at Dani’s after the service.
