Raymond Ah Sing Yap III's Obituary
Raymond "Butch" Ah Sing Yap III, a devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2025, at the age of 53 in Makawao. He was born in Wailuku, Maui, on December 23, 1971. Butch will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering support for his family and friends, and genuine aloha spirit.
Butch attended Baldwin High School. He spent twenty-five years as a chief surveyor for Newcomer-Lee Land Surveyors before working for Miyake Concrete. Later, he worked as a counter salesman at White Cap Building Supply for six years.
Butch loved cooking, listening to music, and making people laugh. His larger-than-life personality made sure that everyone was having a good time, with plenty of laughter and prayer. He cherished time with his wife, family, and friends, always spreading aloha to everyone he met.
Butch’s faith was the foundation of his life. As a Kahu Haʻieuanaleo (Reverend) at Ka ʻEkalasia O Kupaianaha, he found great joy in serving Ke Akua and sharing His love. He lived by the words of Matthew 5:8: "Pōmaikaʻi ka poʻe i maʻemaʻe ma ka naʻau, no ka mea, e ʻike lākou i ke Akua." "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond ‘Butch' Ah Sing Yap II and Leona Lee; his sister, Rochelle Yap Kaauwai; and his mother-in-law, Elaine Binkie. He is survived by his beloved wife, Brandi Makaleka Yap. He is also deeply loved and remembered by his sisters, Michelle (John) Awai, Sandy and Britchard Kepano; his brother, Patrick Kepano; his brother-in-law, Kamuela (Melissa) Binkie; and his sister-in-law, Bergundi (John) Grosulak; his nieces, Kanileʻa Binkie, Nanea (Rasko) Vasquez, and Kili (Kaua) Carvalho; his nephews, Joshua (Shay) Awai, Ezra Kaauwai, and Kaniela, Keoni, and Kamuela Grosulak; and countless friends who became family. His aloha and faith will continue to shine through all who know him.
"Braddah Butch" will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory and the impact of his life will live on in our hearts and in the laughter he brought to our lives.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Hale Nanea, 69 Amala Place, Kahului.
