Rebecca "Becky" O Kie Kim's Obituary
Rebecca “Becky” O Kie Kim passed away on September 8th, 2020 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on May 31, 1935 in Waialua, Molokai.
Becky graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1953 and received her degree in Nursing from the Mercy College of Nursing of San Diego in
California. She made a career in the Army, specializing as a pediatric nurse and retired as a Major after twenty years of distinguished service. Upon returning to Maui in 1979 she embarked on a second career as a geriatric nurse at the Hale Makua long-term care facility until her retirement. Becky loved to talk to people and she loved to shop, often combining the two as she wandered her favorite shopping grounds of Queen
Ka’ahumanu Center, engaging in lively conversation with friends and soon to be friends alike. She was an incredibly generous and kindhearted woman and was an important and loved figure in the lives of her many nieces and nephews. Becky is pre-deceased by her parents Chai Bong Kim and Bok Soon
Kim; her brothers Bomani “BJ” (Misao) Kim and John (Juliana) Kim; and sisters Harriet (Shoichi “Baer”) Kawate, Mary Tomlinson and Sonia
Anna Kim. She is survived by her sister Pauline (Ray) Smith as well as
her many nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held for
Becky at Nakamura Mortuary on Friday, October 2nd, 2020. She will
be laid to eternal rest at Makawao Veteran’s Cemetery immediately
following.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Becky’s memory may be made to the
Maui Food Bank.
