Rebecca Makananani MIN's Obituary
Rebecca Makananani MIN, 91 years young, passed on into peaceful rest on Sunday, February 7, 2016, @ 6:30 am in her daughter’s home in Happy Valley. She was born to goodly parents, John
Mahihelelima, Sr. and Rose Hiona, on January 25, 1925 in Iao Valley.
When “Makana” met her life partner, it was “love @1st sight”, which remained the case for 65 MEMORABLE years! She is predeceased by her eternal companion, Ralph Faustino Sooree MIN.
A career consisted of working @ Libby Cannery on Oahu; &, on Maui, as an usher @ the Iao Theater and later @ Iao Needle, Kaanapali Beach & Maui Beach Hotels as a “chambermaid”. As
it became possible, “Becky” was a stay-at-home wife and mom, by her own choice--to her family’s delight--for the majority of the rest of her lifetime. “Makana” is a true “gift” to her family, and will be remembered fondly as a quiet-giant-of-a-woman who lived a life of unwavering faith--enduring to the end.
Rebecca is survived by daughter, Carolyn Sue “Haunani”, (Samuel Richard) Adams, Jr.; son, Ronald Kealakai (Pilialoha Gloria Oliver) MIN and daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” May Mapuana,
(Sidney Richard) Cadorna. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and two: one, plus “1-on-the-way” great, great grandchildren!!!
“Tita” is also survived by sisters, Rose Kahinalaulani “Kahina” (deceased-Benjaimin Ralph) Victorino, Sr., Anna “Puanani” (deceased-Lowell Kuhi) Andrade, Louise “Wainani” (deceased-Thomas George) Fudala, and brother, John “J.J.” (Pamela Bechert) Mahi, Jr.
A chance to share a final moment with Rebecca Makananani MIN will be on Saturday, March 5, 2016, from 9-11 am with a memorial service from 11 am-12 pm @ The Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-Day-Saints; Kahului Stake Center; Kahului, HI. A luncheon will follow; burial @ Maui Memorial Park is scheduled for 2 pm.
Rebecca was predeceased by son, Robert “Bobby” (Deborah Mitsue Estes/Okumura) MIN.
