Rhoda O. Chong Kee's Obituary
Rhoda O. Chong Kee, 90 of Wailuku, Maui passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Islands Hospice Maui. She was born to William and Dora Place on June 8, 1930 on Molokai. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 from 8:30am to 11:00am; with prayer service to begin at 11:00am at Nakamura Mortuary. She will be laid to rest at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku at 1230pm. Rhoda was a homemaker and professional lei maker. Skilled in her craft, specialties include Ilima, Pakalana, and lei hulu. Rhoda is predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth Chong Kee, and great-grandson Legend King; survived by children, Keith Keali’inoa (Avis) Chong Kee, Melissa-Ann Moanikeala (Barron) Souza, Kirk Kamaka’okalani Chong Kee, Kennethy Kaui (Michael) Souza, Kimberly Kuuleipuanani Chong Kee, and hanai daughter Melveen “Melvina” Leed; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; sisters Karen Joao and Zaidarene Kalipi, and brother Chevalier “Buster” Place. An active member of the Hawaiian Civic Club, Rhoda held the office of Treasurer for several years. She was also a long-time member of the ‘Ahahui Ka’ahumanu of Maui.
