Richard Douglas' Obituary
Richard Douglas, 80, passed away on October 1, 2012 in Kula Hospital, Maui, Hawaii.Mr. Douglas was born December 31, 1931, in Southfields, London, England. He earned two Master's degrees, coached, and ran, for University of Idaho, USA. He also taught in California, New York, Delaware and Maryland. A lifelong international athlete, he competed in long distance, representing Canada, in Brazil.Richard met Busaba Yip, Ph.D., while volunteering at the Wo Hing Museum, Lahaina, Maui, and they married in 2003. In 2010 Richard entered the care of Kula Hospital, where he resided until his passing.He is survived by his wife Dr. Busaba Yip Douglas, son Laird (Katherine), daughter Nicole Rene' Douglas, and grandchildren Liam & Gavin, and Aiden & Alexis. Other survivors include Cynthia Merrick mother of his children, sister Pamela Webster, brother John, and many nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean McCarthy. A private ceremony will be held in Maryland at a later date.Dick was a unique and beautiful soul, a poet, a lover of life with a keen sense of humor, and a gentle man. He was an artist, dancer and athlete. He ran "a great race" and now continues his journey, "the natural way".
