Robert Warren Montgomery's Obituary
Born June 29, 1932 in Oakland, California to Warren Montgomery and Mildred Montgomery, he grew up in Seattle, Washington. He graduated in product design from the Art Center College of Design in Palo Alto, California, and worked for General Motors in Detroit. Moving to San Francisco where his clients included Varian Systems and Apple Computer. From the latter’s Tokyo offices, he led engineering and manufacturing efforts with worldwide suppliers until his retirement in 1996. He moved to Maui and under the auspices of the 21st Grandmaster of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaijutsu he founded the American headquarters of this four-hundred year old martial art of Japanese swordsmanship, which he studied while in Japan along with the Japanese sword. His students were individuals who sought personal growth ages five through their sixties, and he sought to personalize their learning.
He is survived by his wife Anne Miyashiro, daughters Randi (Mike) Gibson, Robin (Ron) Maniglia, Heidi Delgado, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his students.
