Robert Yukio Nishida's Obituary
Robert passed away at the age of 91, at Maui Memorial Hospital on July 8, 2017. He was born on September 14, 1925 in Pukalani, Maui. He was the second of 6 children, of Zenzo and Harumo Nishida of Pukalani. The family later moved to Makawao.
Services honoring Mr. Nishida will be held at Nakamura Mortuary on Monday, July 31, 2017. A visitation will begin at 9:00am with services beginning at 10:00am. Mr. Nishida will be laid to eternal rest following services at Maui Veterans Cemetery at 1:00pm.
Robert completed the 8th grade at Makawao School, after which time he had to help his father with the farming business. He, along with his father & uncle started Maui Farmers Cooperative Exchange in Wailuku. He was a farmer till age 89. Aside from farming, Robert later got his GED, Vocational Training & Correspondence Accounting Degrees. He later worked as a Purchasing Agent at Kula Hospital, Maui Memorial Hospital & Maluhia Hospital on Oahu. He retired in 1977.
Robert was drafted into the Army at age 19 and also became a Special Agent for the Central Intelligence Corp. (today’s CIA). His assignment was to interview Japanese POW’s on Saipan, and help with the rebuilding of Japan after it’s bombing, and is now a member of the Atomic War Veterans Association.
In 1950, Robert married Tsugiko Koki of Wailuku, who passed away in 2004. He leaves behind 2 children: Arlene (James) Puailihau and Kerry (Paula) Nishida, as well as 5 grandchildren: Lauren Osumi, Yasmene (Alex) Overton, Matthew, Catherine and Jenna Nishida. Two sisters: Hatsue Tsukamoto & Thelma Montgomery. And his beloved cat- Kolohe. You will be deeply missed.

Dr. Kenneth Kato and his staff, Dr. Elaine Williams, and especially his special nurses at the Lanai North Wing, Tess and Edna. You helped make his life special.
