In Loving Memory of Rodney Figueroa
Rodney Figueroa, 61, of Kihei, Hawaiʻi, passed away on June 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rodney was born on February 21, 1965, in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, to Momi and Rudolph Figueroa Sr. He was raised in Puunene, Maui, by his beloved grandparents, Lucy and Henry Kenui, who played a significant role in shaping the man he would become.
A proud graduate of Baldwin High School, Rodney dedicated 33 years of service to the County of Maui, where he advanced to the position of Solid Waste Collection Superintendent. He was respected by his colleagues for his strong work ethic, leadership, and unwavering commitment to serving the Maui community.
Beyond his career, Rodney's greatest passion was football. For more than 35 years, he devoted countless hours to coaching high school football, mentoring generations of young athletes both on and off the field. His influence extended far beyond the game, as he instilled discipline, confidence, and teamwork in the many lives he touched.
Above all else, Rodney cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, coach and friend whose love, guidance, and steadfast support will be deeply missed.
Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Naomi Esquivel; his children, Kaʻanoʻiokapuʻuwai (Junior) Figueroa and Kamalani (Keahilele) Figueroa; his brothers, Rudolph (Lore) Figueroa Jr. and Dwayne (Tammy) Figueroa; and his sisters, Roxanne (Ken) Agcaoili and Kimberly Ann Figueroa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Momi and Rudolph Figueroa Sr.; his sisters, Doreen Aau and Rudiann Figueroa; and his beloved grandchildren, Hālaʻi-Reign Foster and Legend Foster.
Rodney's legacy lives on through the family he loved, the community he served, and the countless athletes, friends, and loved ones whose lives were forever enriched by his presence.
The family of Rodney Figueroa would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Maui Memorial Medical Center and Straub Benioff Medical Center for the compassionate care, kindness, and support provided to Rodney throughout his illness. Your dedication, professionalism, and genuine concern brought comfort not only to Rodney but also to our entire family during a difficult time. We are deeply grateful for the care and dignity you showed him.We would also like to thank our family, friends, coworkers, teammates, former players, and the Maui community for the many prayers, messages, acts of kindness, and support shown during this time of loss. Your love and encouragement have been a source of strength and comfort to our family.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Rodney Figueroa will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kihei, Hawaiʻi. Public visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to join the family for light refreshments and fellowship immediately following the service as we gather to honor and celebrate Rodney's life and legacy.
