Russell James Renken's Obituary
Russell James Renken, 61 of Kihei, Maui, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025. He was born on July 24, 1963, to William H. and Bernadine Renken. Russ grew up on the family farm near Smithfield, Nebraska. He graduated from high school and college in Nebraska. After college, Russ lived and worked for several years in both Omaha and Steamboat Springs, Colorado, before moving to Hawaii.
Russ on Maui lived his true fun life. He was multi-talented as an artist, musician, singer and entrepreneur, plus, Russ was named Best Tan for several years running. While spending time on the beach, Russ met the man whom would be the love of his life for the next 24 years. Team Russ and Dan travelled the globe. Favorite destinations were Thailand, Capri and Macau. Around Maui, Russ could be spotted cruising the island in his convertible, catching sun by his pool or in the kitchen baking up a storm.
Russ was predeceased by his parents (Bill and Bernadine) and brother and sister-in-law (Cmdr Ralph W. and Mary Renken). He is succeeded by his husband Dennis (aka Dan) Lijewski, brother Rodney Renken, sister Wilma Renken, 2 sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law. and a plethora of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Russ' Life was held in Kihei this fall. His cremated remains are traveling the ocean currents to exotic destinations. All who loved and miss Russ are invited to contribute memories on this site.
In lieu of flowers, Russ requested that donations be sent to the National Kidney Foundation.
