Samuel G. Oda's Obituary
Samuel G. Oda, 61, of Wailuku, HI passed away in Kahului under the kind and patient care of Islands Hospice.
Sam was born on December 3, 1963 in Wailuku. He was the youngest of five children of John Oda Sr. and Peggy (Hotta) Oda.
After Sam graduated from the University of the Pacific, he helped run the family’s store Peggy & Johnny’s until it closed in 1994. He lived for a while in Honolulu, Osaka, Philippines, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Bangkok. He returned to Honolulu in 2021 and moved back to Maui in 2022.
Sam is survived by his sisters Cynthia Oda-Kanno and Beverly Oda, his brothers Randal Oda and John Oda Jr. (Arielle) and his nieces and nephews Janine Oda Negut (Val), Jennifer Oda Crandal (Sean), Matthew Kanno, Alexander Oda, Benjamin Oda and one grandnephew.
The family would like to thank Kaiser Permanente Wailuku Medical Office Pulmonary Diseases staff, Maui Memorial Medical Center, and Islands Hospice for helping Sam live well during his final years.
A memorial service to celebrate Sam’s life will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Nakamura Mortuary. Visitation: 10:30; Service: 11:00. Lunch to follow. Please no koden and no flowers.
