Shigeo P. Wakayama's Obituary
Shigeo “Piggy” Wakayama, 93, of Kahului, Maui passed away on June 18th at his residence.
Services were held privately at his request. Nakamura Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
He was born in Kahului on June 1, 1923 to Masaichi and Nui Wakayama. He loved the game of basketball and was Captain of the Maui High School Basketball team. He was also a proud veteran of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, earning the Congressional Gold Medal and the Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur. In his spare time, Shigeo entertained the troops with his hula dancing to “Lovely Hula Hands.” Shigeo worked for Kahului Railroad as a warehouseman at the pier for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife Janet of 63 years; daughter, Janice (Clarence) Ishizu of Pukalani and son, Neal (Nena) Wakayama; grandchildren, Ryan Ishizu, Megan Wakayama, Taylor Wakayama, Coby Wakayama. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma (Michio) Okuda, and brother-in-law, Takeji Nihei.
