Shizuka Owara's Obituary
Shizuka Owara, 93, of Pukalani, passed away peacefully at Hale Makua Kahului under the compassionate care of Hospice Maui on May 14, 2017, and surrounded by her loving family.
Services honoring Mrs. Owara were held privately at her request.
Shizuka was born on July 13, 1923 in Paia, to Itaro & Sumiye Nakashima. She was the eldest of 10 children. On December 14, 1946, Shizuka married her love, Mr. Tadashi Owara and together, they raised five children. Mrs. Owara worked as a field laborer for Maui Land and Pineapple Company for many years. She was also an active and faithful member of Paia Montokuki’s Fujinkai. She was particularly known for her an recipe, which she used in her homemade manju and her specialty sushi. Her family and friends will remember her selflessness, generosity and love for her family.
Mrs. Owara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Mr. Tadashi Owara. She is survived by sons, Wendell, Brian & Edwin Owara; daughters, Arlene (Jeffrey) Taketa & Janice Owara; grandchildren, Marisa Taketa, and Kristi Ann (Derek) Oakley; and great grandchildren, Emery, Kyla & Keoki Oakley.
