Sina Marie Fournier's Obituary
Sina Marie Fournier, died April 7, 2013 at home in Hana, Maui.
Sina Marie Stevens Fournier was born on December 14, 1928 in Pago Pago, American Samoa to Richard and Sina Gagae-Talia Stevens. They moved to Honolulu in the 1930s where Sina was raised. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1946. She was a long-time employee of Hawaiian Tel and in 1971 she and her late husband, Joseph Oscar Fournier, moved to Hana, Maui.
An avid horse-woman, Sina was a frequent pa'u rider in Kamehameha Day parades in Honolulu in the '60s and '70s. She was also active in the Hana rodeo scene and enjoyed hosting competitions at her Hauoli Lio Ranch in Kaeleku. A renowned hula dancer, she entertained at many Waikiki clubs in the '50s and '60s--including Waikiki Sands, Kapahulu Tavern and Queen's Surf--and also in Las Vegas with various Polynesian revues. After settling into life in Hana, Sina pursued her love for hula with the Noenoe Maidens and enjoyed a 50+ year hula career. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Lee Emmette, of St John, Virgin Islands; son, Duke Walls, of Hana; grandchildren Danae (Eric) Cereceres of Haiku, Maui; Zachary Richardson of Charleston, SC, and great-grandchildren Skyler and Hali'a Cereceres. She is also survived by her brother Edward (Elizabeth) Stevens, of Kailua-Kona, her sister Ramona (Richard) Robertson, of Kailua, O'ahu, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
