Stephen Sutherland's Obituary
Life Bible Verse: John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life.
Steve Sutherland (Stephen D.) born Dec 4, 1946 in Long Beach, CA moved to Maui in July 1967 as a young surfer. He left his earthly home in Napili, Maui, to go be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 29, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He went peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer for 2 years and was a very loving husband who will be tremendously missed. Steve was a loving father to his sons, grandson and to all his family.
Pre-deceased by Mr. & Mrs. Hilton Niles (grandparents). Survived by Mother, Jeanne M. Espinoza; Sister, Karen Breier; Wife of 57 years, Nancy Sutherland; Son, Seth D. Sutherland (Natalie); Step Grand Daughter, Carlie K. Dunster; Grand Son, Chase D. Sutherland; Son, Lucas H. Sutherland (Susan Sakamoto).
Steve was a die-hard Dodger fan, and an avid softball player in Lahaina, Maui, for many years: Harvey Wallbangers, Black Coral Club, Alex’s Hole in the Wall, Kapalua Bay Villa team, Lahaina Yacht Club, and Sunday softball at Honolua Park. He organized and managed a lot of fun times with all these teams.
Hotel employment, various business endeavors, executive positions, and resident manager for Napili Hau Community Association for 22 years.
Deep heartfelt thank you to Dr. Gregory Pollack and Dr. Kimmie Ouchi and all the attending staff from Kaiser Permanente. Hospice Maui was exceptional in helping with Steve’s care. All of the staff was very caring and attentive to all of our needs.
The family held private and informal services. Donations may be made in Steve’s name to Hospice Maui.
