Sueko Hirata's Obituary
Sueko "Sue" Hirata, 84, of Lahaina, Hawaii passed away peacefully on February 5, 2013, amongst her nieces, nephews, close relatives and Hospice Care. She was born to the late Kantaro and Natsu Kawabata on February 22, 1928. Sue attended Lahainaluna High School and then married the late Hideo Hirata in 1945. She worked as a waitress at the Sheraton Maui. Sue and her husband Hideo later founded the Lahaina Credit Union, where she worked until retiring in 1983. Sue spent her time in retirement traveling between Lahaina and Redondo Beach.
Sue was a generous and incredible person that enjoyed gardening, observing nature and having a good drink and conversation with loved ones. She simply loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Tsutomu "Billy", Masaru, Hideo, Isamu "Blackie", Yukio Kawabata and her sister, Ritsuko Hirata.
Sue is survived by a daughter, Esther (George) Shiotsugu, grandchildren, Jason (Wendy) Shiotsugu, Marci (Stephen) Park and a great grandchild, Kenzie Shiotsugu, all of whom reside in Southern California. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews both in California and Hawaii.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. in the Lahaina Hongwanji Church. Visitation with family will begin at 3:00 p.m.
