Susan Mary Kai Sim Chin Tom's Obituary
Susan Mary Kai Sim Chin Tom, 89, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2023. She was born on July 13, 1933, in Yan Ping, Canton, China, to Chin Abew and
Wah Yuet (Leong) Chin. Susan attended St. Anthony Girls High School from Grades 1-12 and graduated in 1951. She worked as a waitress at her family’s business, Wing Sing Restaurant, until it closed, and then as a kitchen helper at Golden Jade Restaurant with her husband and his family. She later retired at the closing of the Golden Jade Restaurant. Susan enjoyed her retirement traveling and spending time with family.
She is survived by her children: David (Rosemarie), Robin (Roger) Yarborough,
Stephanie (Earl) Asato, Wallace (Teri), Francis (Leanne), and Janice (Wayne) Ibarra;
16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and siblings, Mary Jones and Gilbert (Daisy) Chin.
Pre-deceased by her husband, Wallace Wah Hop Tom in July 2022; parents, Chin Abew and Wah Yuet Chin; brothers, Koon Chong (Sui Kee- deceased)Yun,
Koon Fook (See Kwong- deceased)Yen, Howard (Carol- deceased) Chin and
Robert (Loretta) Chin; and sisters, Cecilia (Elmer- deceased) Davis and
Bernice (Felix- deceased) Faborito.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at St. Anthony Church in Wailuku, followed by mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider donating to: Hospice Maui or St. Anthony Church.
