Susumu Matoi's Obituary
Susumu Matoi, of Haiku and Kahului, passed away May 11, 2015.
He was born on Kauai on March 28, 1912 to Yaichi and Tamaye Matoi.
Mr. Matoi was a lifelong educator, spending the majority of his teaching career at Haiku School, and eventually retiring as Principal of Wailuku Elementary after a 55-year career.
Mr. Matoi was an avid fisherman and skin diver, and expert carpenter and gardener.
He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Mrs. Shizue Matoi. He is survived by his children, Amy Matoi-Schmitt and Gary Matoi, four grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
A memorial service honoring Mr. Matoi will be held at Nakamura Mortuary on October 24, 2015. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, with services at 11:00 am. Mr. Matoi will be laid to rest with his late wife at 2:00 pm at Maui Memorial Park.
