Suzanne Stephens Millard's Obituary
Suzanne Stephens Millard, 79, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends in a place she loved, Maui, Hawaii on January 31, 2022. Born in Nashville, TN on October 2, 1942, she was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte North Carolina, Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, NC, and the Crawford W. Long School of Nursing in Atlanta, GA. Suzanne was a Registered Nurse. She worked as a floor supervisor and chief nursing officer for Dekalb General Hospital before moving to occupational health nursing. Suzanne served as plant nurse for Gen-eral Motors, DuPont, and Ciba Vision in Atlanta.
Suzanne met and married the love her life, John B. Millard in 1988. Together they made homes in Stone Mountain, GA, Long Island, NY, Ottawa, Canada, Cullman, AL, Gainesville, GA, and Kihei, HI on the Island of Maui. They traveled extensively and played duplicate bridge at the elite level, both becoming Silver Life Masters. Suzanne loved museums, along with learning about and experiencing other cultures. A highlight in her travels was being one of the last passengers to fly the Concorde and receiving a personal, behind the scenes tour of the Vatican.
Suzanne is preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Stephens, and her sister Georgia L. Stephens. She will be treasured in the memory of her family: beloved husband, John B. Millard, two children of her own; daughter, Michelle Pennington (Dustin), son Carl Samuel Graham III, Chip (Dawn), three children by marriage; John Millard, Jr. (Amy), Susan Dixon (Dave), and Angela Millard (Chris), brother, Michael Stephens, sister, Lisa Hill (Rick),
thirteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A family graveside service will be held later this year at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, TN officiated by Ed Hayes of Cullman, AL.
