Takeo Igawa's Obituary
Takeo “Shorty” Igawa, 95, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Maui Memorial Medical Center with his loving daughter by his side. He was born on January 23, 1927, in Wailuku. He was one of eleven children born to Sakujiro and Hama (Kadomura) Igawa and also a twin to his brother Matsuo.
After graduating from Baldwin High School, Shorty joined the Army where he served in Japan during occupation. Upon returning to Maui he worked at and retired from Maui Pineapple Company with over 40 years of service. His passion was going fishing, especially on the aku boat the Orion with his best friend Captain Hajime Hamashige. He also loved to garden. Later in life he enjoyed the friendships made with the Makule Softball team. His pride and joy were his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Katherine, daughter Barbara Gene McLemore, brothers Haruto, Kaichi, Akira, Matsuo, and sisters Takeyo, Asama, Chitoe, Tamae Shimizu and Setsuko Kayatani.
He is survived by a brother Jiyukichi Igawa, daughter Kathy Texeira, grandchildren Dawn (Robert) Suenaga, Noel (Mary) Texeira, Travis (Tess) Texeira, Sean (Kathleen) Texeira, Becky (Steve) Dyer, Juli Peterson (Matt Wanat) and Jim (Edna) Sheppard. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation and service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 9:00am-12:00 noon at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission, 1828 Vineyard Street, Wailuku. Burial to follow at 12:30pm Maui Memorial Park Garden of Meditation.”
