Thelma Harue Yokote's Obituary
Thelma Harue Yokote, 86, of Kahului, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2018 at Maui Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Services honoring Mrs. Yokote will be held on Thursday. January 18, 2018. Visitation will begin at 4:00pm with memorial services beginning at 5:00pm. She will be laid to rest at Maui Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
Thelma was born on Maui on April 24, 1931 to Matsujiro & Iso Sakuma. After graduating with the Maui High School class of 1949, she met her love, Carl Yokote at a dance at the Wailuku Armory. In 1951, the couple married and together they raised four children. Mrs. Yokote worked at Maui Land and Pineapple Company, starting in the cannery and retiring as a lab worker. After retiring, Thelma babysat her grandchildren, worked in her garden, crocheted and crafted.
She has been a long-time faithful member of Kahului Hongwanji Mission and the Fujinkai. Recently, she enjoyed socializing with friends at the MEO lunch program.
Mrs. Yokote was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, Mr. Carl Katsushi Yokote.
Thelma leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons, Russell (Annette), Winston & Lloyd (Lori) Yokote; daughter, Kathleen (Reed) Kano; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Kiyoe Kumasaka, Matsue Inokuma & Yatsue Iwatake.
