Tom Kenzo Sakoda's Obituary
“Tom” Kenzo Sakoda, 92, of Kihei, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2016 at his home, under the care of Hospice Maui.
Nakamura Mortuary assisted with a private pre-cremation service given by Reverend Richard Tennes of Kahului Hongwanji Mission.
“Tom” Kenzo was born on June 20, 1924 in Huntington Park, California to Wakaichi & Umeyo (Umeda) Sakoda.
A memorial service honoring Mr. “Tom” Kenzo Sakoda will be held at the Kahului Hongwanji Mission, 291 South Puunene Avenue on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00AM.
He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years “Helen” Harumi (Seki) Sakoda.
Tom Kenzo was a retired Model Maker making prototypes for a toy inventing company; owner of T&H Hobby Shop on Clark St & Webster Ave – Clark St & Morse Ave, Chicago, Illinois; Property owner & Manager; Judo Sensei at Uptown Dojo, Chicago; a constant inventor & tinkerer.
He loved his time on Maui going to the beach with Harumi watching fishermen and whales; giving treats to the neighborhood pets and hosting visitors and family.
“Tom” Kenzo leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Dr. Naomi Sakoda (Professor John Eisele); sons, retired Lt. Col. Robin Hiro (Hannah) Sakoda, David Ikuo, Sidney Tetsu, and Daniel June (Naoko Matsuo); and grandchildren, David B. (Evelyn) Sakoda, Elliott Sakoda, Leah Sakoda, Thomas Sakoda, Jenna Eisele, Hanan Eisele, Gina Sakoda, Lexie Sakoda, and Sydney Harumi Sakoda.
