Tomoko Ohataa's Obituary
Tomoko Ohata, 98, of Kahului peacefully passed away at Roselani on June 5, 2023. She was a third daughter born in Paia on February 24, 1925 to Seiichi Ohata and Hisa Nishio Ohata. She graduated from Maui High School in 1943 then majored in Education at the University of Hawaii where she graduated in 1947. She was a Vice-principal, Principal, and Administrator with the DOE until retirement. Tomoko enjoyed playing piano and ukulele, sewing, cooking, gardening and reading.
Tomoko is survived by her younger brother Harold (Yoshie) Ohata. She is predeceased by Kentaro (Hiroko) Ohata, Chiyoko (Henry) Sue, Seiya (Kiyoko) Ohata, Robert (Alice) Ohata, Kay (Ipu) Fukuda, Roy (Sachie) Ohata, numerous nephews and nieces. Tomoko is resting in peace with her beloved family at the Maui Memorial columbarium. A private service will be held for the family who requests no koden or flowers, just a moment of remembrance.
We would like to express our deepest appreciation for the staff at Roselani and Hospice Maui who made Tomoko’s last days filled with compassion, comfort and understanding. They made her passing easier for everyone. Mahalo from our family.
