Toshie Kohatsu Nako's Obituary
Toshie Kohatsu Nako, 91 died on February 8, 2024 at Hale Makua Kahului, under Hospice Maui care. She was born March 11, 1932 in Paia, Maui to Tara & Kamado Kohatsu. Toshie was the last of 10 brothers and sisters. Toshie grew up in Kaheka camp in Paia. She shared many fond memories of living in the plantation camp and enjoyed the reunions.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Harold Nako. Toshie is survived by her son Clifford Nako & partner Lucy Duchemin, daughter Janice (Peter) DeMichele, and Grandchildren Timothy (Sasie) DeMichele, Matthew DeMichele and Andrew (Salah) DeMichele and many nieces and nephews.
Toshie graduated from Maui High School in Paia in 1950 and went on to Nursing School in Fall River, Massachusetts receiving her nursing diploma in 1954. She worked as a registered nurse at Maui Memorial Hospital and at Maui Clinic with Dr. Edward Underwood and then at Maui Medical Group with Dr. Rockett and Dr. Diane Nagasaka before retiring in 1998.
Toshie was an active member of Kahului Union Church serving and participating in Sunday School, nursery, choir, hospitality ministry and VBS. She was the church Secretary for many years.

Memorial services will be at Kahului Union Church on March 9, 2024 at 11 am. Visitation to begin at 10:30 am and lunch in the social hall following the service. Burial will be held at a later date.
