In Loving Memory of Tranquilino “Boy” Papagayo
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Tranquilino “Boy” Papagayo, who peacefully departed this life on January 23, 2025, at Maui Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. He was 79 years old.
Born on March 6, 1945, in Balungao, Pangasinan, Philippines, Tranquilino moved to Maui in 2003, where he embraced his new community and became a dedicated employee of the Maui News. His kindness, work ethic, and warmth touched many lives.
Tranquilino is predeceased by his beloved wife, Evita Papagayo, and his brothers, Benjamin and Andres (Maria) Papagayo. He is survived by his children: Clarita (David) Hart, Cleehford (Desiree), Papagayo Choleen (Cyriel) Corpuz, and Chealeen (Alfie) Obrero; and his grandchildren: Caylev, Macy, Miel, Jayden, and Chalize. He is also survived by his brother, Maximo (Aurora) Papagayo, as well as numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces who held him in great affection.
Tranquilino will be remembered for his deep faith, his devotion to his family, and his remarkable sense of humor. His patience, compassion, and unwavering support for others were qualities that defined him. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and faith that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Wake Service: Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Christ the King Church 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Burial: 2:30 PM at Garden of Meditation, Maui Memorial Park
