Tsutomu "Blackie" Masumoto's Obituary
Tsutomu "Blackie" Masumoto, 85, of Wailuku, died November 26, 2011, at his home while under care with Hospice Maui.Family and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of life to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sat., Dec. 10, 2011 at Kepaniwai Park in Iao Valley; with a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private at a later date. The family requests casual attire.Mr. Masumoto was born on January 9, 1926, in Wailuku, son of Hajime and Misao Masumoto of Wailuku. A World War II army veteran, he was an automotive mechanic and owner of Masumoto Garage. He then worked for the County of Maui and State of Hawaii.He is survived by two daughters, Susan (Peter) Easterling and Donna Phillips; and two grandchildren Lisa (CJ) Remington and Brandon (Kori-Ann) Phillips.Blackie, as he was known to his friends, was an avid fisherman, bowler, hunter, diver, golfer and plant enthusiast. He loved to dance and was friends with people of all ages and walks of life. Blackie lived life to the fullest on his own terms and was with his family until the end.
