V. Hinano Kaleleiki's Obituary
V. Hinano Kaleleiki joined his ancestors in the ʻaoʻao mau o ka honua. A deeply
loving soul forged from generations of aloha maoli, he fully lived aloha in every role in
his life; as a son, grandson, brother, cousin, friend, uncle, husband, father, Pūʻali Koa,
Kiaʻi ʻĀina and Konohiki… Predeceased by his parents, Samuel H. Kaleleiki Jr. and
Haroldeen K. Kaleleiki (Martinez) he is survived by his son Kaleleliki, wife Kailani, hanai
son Ipe, daughters Kuʻulei and Kaʻimi, sisters Pua and Rosemary, brothers Tama,
Kaleihua, Auliʻi, Frank, and many other hānai brothers and sisters, bothers in arms,
Aunties, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Born in Kailua, Oahu, Hinano attended school in Hawaii, Oceanside California
and the school of hard knocks. After attending Lahainaluna High School he served in
the United States Marine Corps for 10+ years. He returned to his childhood home and
roots in Lahaina, Maui and worked as a security officer at night and a farmer during the
day, providing safety and sustenance for his community. Realizing his kuleana as a
Konohiki he spent his final years educating himself and others about the continuity of
the Hawaiian Kingdom and the importance of ones rights and responsibilities as
subjects, revitalizing the Government. He loved people, the great spirit ʻĪo and justice.
May his legacy live on.
