Victoria Prito Malaqui's Obituary
Victoria "Vicky" Prito Malaqui, 90, passed peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024 at St. Francis Hospice on Oahu. She leaves behind daughters Valerie Cherry, Cynthia (Randall) Tsuneyoshi, Annette (Russell) Yokote and a son, Wesley Malaqui (Marie Saito). She was known as Nana to her grandchildren Michel Cherry, Bryan Malaqui, Anela Malaqui-Sanchez, Kurt, Chad, Tad and Earl Tsuneyoshi, Resa Berry, and Lee, Sean and Kevyn Yokote, and numerous great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Julie Ishii, Rita Brandt, Myrna Carpio, and Sylvia Malaqui.
Victoria was born at Hamakua, Hawaii on February 27, 1933 to Leon and Alberta Prito. She was the youngest sibling to Consuelo Edquiban, Susanna Apostal and Juanita Prito. She grew up in Spreckelsville and Haiku, where she and her late husband, John resided and raised their family. Vicky worked as a dental assistant for many years. She traveled extensively with her husband and family, from Japan, Korea and Philippines to numerous states across the Mainland, especially her favorite, Las Vegas. Vicky played the organ for St Rita's Church, the piano, and ukulele as well as danced hula with Na Hula Kupuna 'O Kaunoa. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and all the activities that Kaunoa Center offered. Most of all, she took pride in the flowers that she grew and cared for, such as anthuriums, orchids, and gardenias.
The Malaqui Ohana wish to extend their gratitude and aloha to the staff at St. Francis Hospice, Queen's Medical Center; Valley of the Temples Mortuary and Nakamura's Mortuary for their care, assistance and support during this difficult time.
Services will be held at Nakamura's Mortuary on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Public is invited at 9:00 a.m., eulogy and program will begin at 10:00. A prayer service will be at 11:00, and burial to follow at Maui Memorial Park at 12:30.
