Violet Yuko Moto's Obituary
Violet Yuko Moto, 97, of Makawao, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2020, at home under hospice care.
Violet was born on January 28, 1923, in Hāʻiku, Maui, and attended Makawao School and Maui High School (Class of 1941), where she graduated as class valedictorian. She was a homemaker and worked ten years at Kitada’s restaurant in Makawao.
Violet was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She thought of others first. She loved Makawao, was kind to stray animals, read a lot, and was a faithful member of Paia Mantokuji Mission, serving for a time as President of the Fujinkai. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. After retirement she participated in the Pukalani Pensioners Club.
The family is grateful to the many people who helped and encouraged Violet throughout her life, especially in her final years. Special thanks to Islands Hospice, Ohana Care Maui, Kaiser, Meals on Wheels, and home care assistant Violeta Balino. She lived a long time, despite Alzheimer’s, because of the great care she received.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Gordon) Nishiki, sons Brian Moto and Eric Moto, grandson Jeremy Nishiki, and granddaughter Jennifer Nishiki. She is predeceased by husband Kaoru Moto, daughter Carol Moto, son Buster Moto, parents Kichihei and Tetsu Saito, and brothers Shinsei Saito and Kaizo Saito.
Private memorial services are planned. In lieu of koden or flowers, donations may be made in Violet’s memory to Paia Mantokuji Mission.
