Wallace Wah Hop Tom's Obituary
Wallace Wah Hop Tom, 92, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on July 7, 2022 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on July 4, 1930, in Waiakoa, Maui, to Koon Fook and Annie Ah Tim Tom. Wallace was a 1949 graduate of Baldwin High School. He was employed as a bellman at the Maui Grand Hotel Wailuku from 1949 to 1951. He joined the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954. He attended a culinary school which brought him back to Maui where he was the long-time cook at the Golden Jade Chinese Restaurant in Wailuku, Maui, and was famous for his Chinese roast turkey, cake noodle, kau yuk and stuffed duck.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; and their children, David (Rosemarie), Robin Yarborough (Roger), Stephanie Asato (Earl), Wallace (Teri), Francis (Leanne), and Janice Ibarra (Wayne); 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and siblings, Edmund, Roseline Chung, Theresa, and Florence Kojenlang. Pre-deceased by his parents, Koon Fook and Annie Ah Tim, brothers, George, Wilbert and Arnold and sister, Shirley Chee.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, at St. Anthony Church in Wailuku, followed by mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao at 1:00 p.m.
