Walter Okubo, 68, of Wailuku, went home to be with the Lord on May 16, 2012, in Wailuku, Maui.O’ahu visitation will be 6pm, Friday June 1, at King’s Cathedral, Niu Valley, with service at 7pm, reception to follow. Maui visitation will be 9am, Thursday, June 7, at King’s Cathedral, Kahului, with services at 10:30am, lunch to follow. Family requests casual dress.Mr. Okubo was born on February 2, 1944, in Honolulu.He was a firefighter on O’ahu, and retired as an employee of Waiehu Golf Course on Maui.He was predeceased by his parents Kameichi and Kiyoko Okubo and brother Roy Okubo.He is survived by his loving wife, Darien Okubo; son Randall (Dawn) Nakamura; daughters Danette (Ernest) Abe, Barbara “Bobbie” Henry; sisters Keiko “Glenna” (Sidney) Tsugawa, Harriet (Patrick) Carmody; 7 grandchildren.“Opu” or “Pappy” loved golfing and fishing. The Lord gave Walter a great passion to minister hope and wholeness to those recovering from addictions.
