Our condolences to the family. I just found the picture of Bill on his land in his garden, so thought I'd try reaching him and then found this. I am so sorry, as he was a wonderful person. He stayed at our motel in Port Angeles several winters with us and we enjoyed him. He talked about coming our way for a visit, but never happened, so we thought he was just going gung ho with the LivingLand co. He will be missed.
Bill was a wonderful person, quiet and soft-spoken, always eager to help others. Gentle and unassuming he never said anymore than what was needed. A true southern gentleman.
We met early in '75 and traveled the country from end to end. He possessed a wisdom and maturity well beyond his tender years with a lively clever sense of humor and a rapier wit. He always kept his word, never made assumptions and endeavored to do his best in everything he did. His life's journey led him to Maui and the beautiful land that he loved, nurtured and appreciated. Aloha, Bill had been coming to our farm at Mauka Lani on Olinda rd. for as long as I can remember to get horse manure. Every couple months there he was driving by . He always gave me the "Peace Sign" Sometimes brought fresh greens to share with us. It's just not the same without him driving by any more.. He is truly missed by all of us. I met Bill over 25 years ago. He was my neighbor in Olinda. My favorite memory of Bill was the night in August he had invited my husband and I over to watch a meteor shower until the wee hours. It was quite a show and the conversation quite stimulating! Bill was always working on the land and had many dreams about the Aina. I always felt safe knowing he was right next door. I eventually moved from Olinda and had lost touch with him until a few years back I came across an ad for soil and we reconnected. I was so impressed with his soil and knowledge about the land. He showed me what he was doing with soil and gardening and shared his extraordinary vegetables with me. I am sorry to see such a bright soul leave us. He was a simple man in his wants but had so many wonderful aspirations. I am grateful I had the chance to meet him. Mahalo to Bill's family for allowing us to post our fond memories of him!

I knew Bill for a short while, did business with him over the last couple of years. He was always very welcoming, and knowledgeable when I would come to pick up soil from him in Olinda. He was very passionate about what he did, and he really did have some of the best soil I've ever seen. My memory of my last encounter with him, was of him jumping up into his tractor, dumping a generous load of soil into the bed of my pickup screaming "THIS IS GONNA BE A RIGHTEOUS YARD OF SOIL MY FRIEND!"
Wild Bill, Fog Dog and so many laughs.
I've known Bill for 48 years. Lived in Maui with him in 82 for 3 months when Charlie P. Woofers was a real local joint.

Even though I only had the pleasure of meeting Bill once, I always considered him as one of my uncle's too. I always felt connected to his gentle and kind spirit as if he was my family.
