Umpung died! (Bill requested his obituary begin with this statement!) William Choon Nyen Wong, 82, "Bill Wong", passed away peacefully on May 21, 2012, surrounded by his family. From his humble beginnings in Keokea, and through his exceptional work ethic, Bill was able to achieve his career goal of becoming a Certified Public Accountant. He graduated from Baldwin High School as salutatorian and went on to Drake University on an academic scholarship. After serving as an officer in the Army, he was the first CPA on Maui, and retired as partner from Coopers and Lybrand, a national CPA firm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “William C. N. Wong Scholarship Fund” at the University of Hawaii, Maui College, 310 West Kaahumanu Avenue, Kahului, Hawaii, 96732, or Hospice of Maui, 400 Mahalani St., Wailuku, Hawaii, 96793, whose unending compassion and care made his final journey a peaceful one.He is survived by his loving wife Lucy (Suzuki); sons Garret (Bonnie) and Curtis (Shirley); daughters Wendy (Richard Thayer) and Susan (Philip Ostrofsky); 7 grandchildren: Katie, Scott, Allison, Sierra, Thomas, Miki and William.Bill is also survived by brothers Yuen Yen (Shirley) Wong, Kenneth (Myrna) Wong, Edward (Janet) Wong; sisters Dottie Mitsumura, Jennie (Clarence) Ing, and Elizabeth (Robert) Lum.There will be a service at Nakamura Mortuary in Wailuku, Maui on May 31st from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
