From the first time I met Haywood, it was obvious he was big in many ways. Big physical presence, big personality, big smile and big heart. He had something to say to everyone, and usually it was funny or sarcastic, but generally meant with kidding affection. You always knew when he was around, and never outdid him. He was hilarious, generous, kind, positive and friendly, and would call you up out of the blue at any hour to give you some crap and see how you were doing. He made time for people and cared about them. Did he tick some folks off and call them on the carpet? Certainly, but only if they deserved it. He truly loved his boys, and was a big kid himself. I am very sad that Bill is no longer with us. His bigness will be missed. I have many memories of him, some which will stay with me until I die. But, it always makes me laugh to recall the time he "pantsed" Buffalo at his going away party on a busy night outside at the bar at Leilani's, then enjoyed the reaction of all the customers. What a joker, an idiot, a nitwit, and a beautiful human being he was. There wasn't anyone else like him.
Hang loose, Haywood!
