We send our thoughts and condolences to the Yamashiro Family. I have so many good memories of growing up in Happy Valley. I remember staying overnight with Gale and having to face fresh papaya the next morning that Mrs. Yamashiro had put on the dining table. I did not like papayas then but managed, somehow, to eat it! I remember gazing at the huge, beautiful Christmas tree upstairs every year. I remember Mike and all of his admirers. I remember Mr. Yamashiro gently carrying Grandpa Yamashiro upstairs in his later years. I remember trying to stay out of the way -- along with the Kuniyoshi kids -- of the very strict Grandma Yamashiro downstairs. Driving to the cannery in the summer with Gale in the Beetle was fun; working in the cannery was not! Mrs. Yamashiro had the nicest smile and looked so pretty at the Bon dances at Wailuku Honganji.
