Steve And Judy Amar
Lonnie was one of those rare people that you are instantly drawn to. He loves people and he loves to serve them. When we arrived on Maui for our mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lonnie was there and helped us get moved in - even though it was very late in the evening. A great sense of humor, Lonnie and my husband, Steve hit it off immediately. He loved people and next to that he loved talking to people and sharing the gospel with them. Always inviting them to dinner and a visit with the missionaries. Kathy never knew who or how many would be at dinner when she came home. She would get a phone call from Lonnie telling her how many would be there and to pick something up. He loved the missionaries and being the ward mission leader for the Kihei ward. The missionaries knew they were loved and also knew they were expected to fulfill their purpose as they served -- which they did. He loved greeting the members and the guests as they arrived at church each Sunday. His friendly face and happy demeanor was the first person they saw as t hey entered the building. He organized many events that gave people the opportunity to learn about the gospel. He loved the temple trips to Kona and getting them organized - often paying the way for many. So generous! He loved his #92 and loved going to the "Cave" to work on his car with Tim Nay. We developed a strong friendship with Lonnie and Kathy which we will always treasure! We love you, Lonnie -- keep sharing!
